Christmas Will Be 25K Bigger and Brighter in Belize Rural North

Edmond Castro

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – and that means there’s bound to be Christmas cheer in your neighborhood; at least if you are from the Belize Rural North. Today when we caught up with Minister Edmond Castro, we asked him how he will be using that twenty-five grand to spread some cheer in his constituency. He says he will be gifting five hundred families with some hampers and a turkey or ham. Castro said that there are many needs in his division and so he has been reaching out to other partners because he wants to brighten up the holidays for as many as seven hundred families. He will also be throwing a good-old fashion bash for his constituents on December thirtieth.

Edmond Castro, Area Rep, Belize Rural North

“Twenty-five grand is a big help but also dah headache, too, because everybody believes they can get a ham or a turkey or a ham and a turkey. When you do the math, twenty-five thousand into forty or fifty dollars for a ham or a turkey it is not as – it is a help but you are looking at approximately five hundred families will be able to get. The remainder will feel left out. So, in our case, we are giving out some gift bags. We are also giving out about five hundred hams or turkey and we raised some more money so we might be able to give out seven-hundred or seven-hundred and fifty ham or turkey. We also have as our regular, our end of the year bash that we invite all the residents of Belize Rural North. This year it will be held on the thirtieth of December in the lovely village of Boston where we have free entertainment, guest artists, Youth Connection, food – all you can eat. You can come out, eat, bring your family and enjoy yourself. So, it is bringing the families together, the constituency together so we can have a nice time.”
