A Guatemalan Laborer is Mutilated in Bladen by a Mob of Angry Brothers

The other murder in southern Belize involved a Guatemalan national who was viciously hacked to death in Bladen Village on Friday evening.  Police say forty-one-year-old Marcus Chen was chopped multiple times by a group of siblings with whom he had gotten into an altercation while walking towards the river to go fishing.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, Chen was passing the home of Dario Sho when stones began to be thrown at him.  An all-out confrontation ensued, resulting in machetes being drawn.  When the melee ended, Chen lay mortally wounded on the roadside, with massive injuries to the head and body.

“In relation to the first incident, on Friday last, sometime around 4:30 p.m., Independence police were called to Bladen Village which is located between miles fifty-two and fifty-three on the Southern Highway where upon arrival they observed the apparent lifeless body of a Hispanic male, later identified as Marcus Chen, forty-one-year-old Guatemalan laborer of the said village with multiple chop wounds to the head and body.  What the police know so far is the deceased, along with three other persons, was in the village walking towards the Bladen River en route to go fishing when upon reaching near Dario Sho’s residence, Sho began stoning.  One of the stones caught the deceased Marcus Chen in his head which caused him to fall and as a result, he was then attacked by Dario Sho and in the process he inflicted a chop wound to the left arm of Dario Sho.  In the process, four of his other brothers came out of the yard and inflicted the aforementioned injuries to the deceased.  So far, Dario Sho is in the Southern Regional Hospital under police guard while his other brothers remain at large and the police are seeking them in relation to this investigation.”
