Safety Tips to Avoid Getting Jacked this Christmas

Chester Williams

Safety tips on how to avoid getting mugged while out shopping during the Christmas Season are an important part of your holiday guide. This afternoon, top cop Chester Williams gave advice on how to go about your business safely while shopping or withdrawing money from the bank.  It’s a set of rules that apply to business owners, as well as consumers.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police

“As a department, we are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that we put in place mechanisms through our patrolling efforts to be able to minimize the potential for these crimes being committed.  But while we do our part through our preventative patrol efforts, I want to call upon those persons who will be busy out there doing their own personal shopping to also do what they can to be able to ensure their own personal security and that includes trying as much as they can not to walk around with large sums of money.  Do not go to the ATM and walk out with your cash in your hand counting.  If you go to the ATM make sure that the door is locked behind you so that if someone comes, they would have to have a card to be able to go in.  Try not to move around with valuables on you, your chain or bracelets or these other things that would attract the criminals to you.  Try to move around in groups of more than one.  Do not park your vehicle in dark areas far away from you where you have to walk through a dark area to get to your vehicle because, again, the potential does exist for persons who may want to rob you to go and wait for you in the dark area.”
