Senate remembers Dr. Jane Usher

All Belize flags were flown at half-mast today in respect of the iconic Doctor Jane Usher who passed away in her home on Wednesday, December, twelfth. Known for founding the credit union movement and a former parliamentarian, Usher touched the lives of thousands of Belizeans across the country. She lived for one-hundred-and-one-years and during today’s Senate Sitting, Usher’s invaluable contributions were highlighted.

“I rise simply to ask other Senators to kindly rise for a moment in honor of a stalwart in this country, madam Doctor Jane Usher who served this country with integrity and dignity in many capacities; not only as a Minister of Government; I think she was also a former senator; representative for the Pickstock Area. But carried on the work in the credit union and made that institution into a formidable true Belizean bank that served all the people of Belize, who could not, in those days, have access to banking.”

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral.
