Wilfred Elrington Responds to Dickie Bradley and Assad Shoman

Two point five million dollars have been budgeted by the government for the I.C.J. Referendum campaign.  An education campaign, apart from but similar to the government-sponsored I.C.J. campaign, concluded on Tuesday night in Belize City.  The I.C.J. Lecture Series, funded by the University of Belize and the Social Sector Senators, ended in a heated debate between attorney Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley and historian Assad Shoman. While both men have different stances on whether or not the dispute should be left to the I.C.J. for final determination, they took jabs at the current administration and against the Opposition party. Bradley called both parties gangs, while Shoman described them as efficient corruption machine. Today, U.D.P. Minister Wilfred Elrington told News Five that statements like those are irresponsible.

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs

“I historically don’t think it is right probably to denigrate the institutions of government. The institutions of governments are sacred institutions. They were established by our constitutions after our leaders had deliberated on it and had received good advice on it. So the institutions are not to be denigrated to my mind. They are to be respected, supported and revered. Individuals can be taken to task and rightly or wrongly there will be people who will pass comments on individuals but I think we should always make the distinctions between the institution and the individuals. And no matter what anyone else says, over the last ten years this same so-called gang has brought  more development to Belize than ever before in the history of Belize. There has been more development, more employment, more security, more contentment and the country is moving forward. I think it is irresponsible in my view for people to make such remarks about government. If you star undermining the government you will cause chaos to rain in the country. The last thing Belize can afford being such a small and fragile country is to have chaos and more disrespect for authoritative institutions and the likes. Especially people who have legal training and experience and expertise should know that that kind of behavior is more harmful than helpful.”

In which f… country do you live in, major gang boss? More development brought more corruption, they were all avenues for hustling.

Please Sedi, the institution correctly as stated was meant to be revered for the people and not individuals put in there to fulfill their dockets. They are also right in calling them Gangs and Incompetent.
