Boyfriend Re-Detained, but Still No Signs of Anisha Young

Hopes are dimming tonight for the family of Anisha Young; they are offering a reward of ten thousand dollars for concrete information on her whereabouts.  The twenty-three-year-old disappeared on Sunday morning after she left a popular nightclub with her boyfriend in a taxi. Both shared a house on Nargusta Street in Belize City. Her boyfriend was arrested and released after forty-eight hours in custody and then re-arrested on Wednesday night. The family is trying to cover all leads of her whereabouts. Today, they trekked to village of Lemonal, but the search there turned empty-handed. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

It’s been four days since Anisha Young has been officially reported missing. The twenty-three-year-old has not been seen or heard from since leaving a nightclub on Sunday morning in the company of her boyfriend, who remains in police custody. On Wednesday, family and friends of Young camped out at the Queen Street Police Station, having received word that the boyfriend would have been released from custody. But according to police, he was released and rearrested within hours.

“His forty-eight hours was completed yesterday sometime after three and we had him in our custody. We conducted other searches at his residence, other family member’s residence and thereafter about six-thirty he was re-detained again because of new information that we have been receiving.”

“And is he cooperating at this time with you guys?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Basically he is just…what he mentioned is what I just told you; that they were partying and they reached home and that was the last time that he had seen this female alive.”

Today, between sixty to seventy persons were out combing the stretch of road between Bermudian Landing and Lemonal in search of Young. This is following reliable information which has surfaced, putting the boyfriend in that area sometime between seven a.m. and eleven o’clock on Sunday morning. Another piece of evidence, surveillance footage, has also been obtained and handed over to the police, which is being reviewed by investigators. These things, according to the family, contradict what the boyfriend said on the day Young went missing.

“Like I mentioned in all the other interviews because this is our loved one, whenever they tell us to go, we will go—whatever lead, whatever tips. So we got a tip this morning, probably we can check this road, so the entire team came out here. We have a group of about sixty to seventy persons out here helping us with the search. So far, nothing as yet. Nothing, nothing. We are praying, we are hoping. This morning, I had put up a post on my Facebook and all the other pages saying that we have reward out there for her return or any leads leading to her; ten thousand dollars. Anybody, but it has to be reliable and concrete information that we can go to that spot and find her. That person will receive ten thousand dollars reward.”

While police cannot officially say that Young is dead, they too have been following leads that would suggest that her body was dumped.

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“The police has been communicating with the family and has been assisting the family with conducting searches within the Phillip Goldson Highway, the George Price Highway. It’s not a great number of police officers, but at least we have two or three police officers assisting the families. At this present moment, we have about fifteen police officers working between the Old Belize area, Habet and the Cisco Construction way up to the bridge because we are hearing information that that is where the body was dumped.”

Sorry for your loss. People you all need to come together, help out each other, if she was killed it can happen to you too. Get these criminals off the streets, stop protecting them.
