St. Mathews Villager Knocked Down and Killed

Two persons lost their lives in traffic mishaps. On Friday morning, a Belize City businessman driving from Roaring Creek to Belize City knocked down and killed a person who was running across the highway in the Saint Mathew’s Village. Ian Rhaburn reported that he could not avoid hitting the victim, who has since been identified as a mental health patient from the area.

“…when approaching Saint Mathews Village, a male person ran from the left hand side of the road towards his direction causing him to hit the male person. The male person suffered severe body injuries and pronounced dead on the spot by medical personnel. We are aware of that and hence the reason several witness statements have been recorded and thereafter we will make a decision if any charges will be levied on the driver or not. He has been charged with a notice; that gives us enough time for us to prepare a file for us to make a decision if he will be charged or not.”

Ian Rhaburn has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution pending further investigation. Blood specimen was also taken from Rhaburn to determine if he was driving with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
