Accused Murderer Pleads Guilty to Firearm Offences

Jesse Mejia

Ladyville resident, twenty-three-year-old Jesse Mejia, on Thursday pleaded guilty to unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges in the courtroom of Magistrate Emerson Banner. Mejia was fined three thousand dollars and ordered to pay by February twenty-eighth.  If he does not, he will be facing a three-year sentence behind bars. The offences date back to July third, 2017 when Ladyville police responded to information of a shooting and came across Mejia who was riding a white beach cruiser bicycle. Despite being informed that a search would be conducted on him, Mejia sped off, prompting officers to set chase after him. During the chase, Mejia threw a handgun into a nearby drain. The point-thirty-eight pistol, which had two live rounds, was recovered and Mejia was eventually arrested and charged.  If the name sounds familiar, it is because Mejia is waiting to stand trial for the double murder of Casey Lozano and Marlon Spain. He, along with Darwin Prado, is accused of fatally shooting Lozano and Spain on Marage Road in Ladyville on January twenty-third, 2018.
