Taz is Executed in the Old Capital

Arthur Flowers

While the city streets were quiet over the weekend, today two persons were murdered in a span of fourteen hours. The latest murder victim was executed this afternoon just two blocks away from the Queen Street Police Station in proximity of Majestic Alley.  A well-known car washer, forty-four-year-old Arthur Flowers, was shot and killed near the corners of Handyside and Queen Streets when a lone gunman fired a single round into the right side of his temple.  Taz, as Flowers is otherwise known, was standing at the intersection when he was approached by someone who shot him once, before reportedly fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.  Details shared by police are scant and this evening when asked about the murder and the proximity of the incident to the Eastern Division precinct, Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie gave the following response.

Hipolito Novelo

“Sir is there any other preliminary information that you can share with us in regards to the shooting that happened in Belize City a few minutes ago?”

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“No I cannot.  I am aware that there was some incident but I don’t have the details.”

“But sir, it has to be, I know every murder, if this is a murder, but we know it is a shooting and the person appears to have been shot in the head is a subject of concern, but man this thing happened one block from the country’s biggest police station at Eastern Division.  It’s almost incomprehensible that a crime would happen right there, although one has happened before, right in front of the police station.”

Allen Whylie

“Crimes could happen anywhere.  Crimes can happen in front of the police station, crime has happened within the compound of the police station.  So don’t tell me that crime can’t happen.  What I always insist on is when these incidents happen we need to get on the ground as early as possible and try to seek the cooperation of the witnesses and the public and that is what we can do crime will happen.”

Flowers was shot and killed at the location where he washed vehicles.  The incident was reportedly caught on surveillance camera. News Five understands that Flowers is the uncle of Steven Flowers who was charged with the New Year’s Day murder of Leon Garcia, but it is not known if there is any link to this afternoon’s execution.
