AeroMexico Touches Down in Belize

An AeroMexico E-one-ninety airplane touched down at the Philip Goldson International Airport on Saturday, becoming the first direct non-stop flight from Mexico City to Belize.  AeroMexico is Mexico’s global airline with more than eleven years serving the region. The new flight to and from Mexico City is being offered on Saturday and Sunday only; at the moment, the rates are highly competitive. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

For more than two years, B.T.B.’s Airline Development Committee, has been working to establisha direct flight to and from Mexico City via AeroMexico, one of the country’s largest airlines which operates in dozens of destinations worldwide. As some would say, ‘hard work pays off” as on Saturday the Embraer 190 aircraft equipped with ninety-nine passenger seats and premier and business class cabins, touched down at the Philip Goldson International Airport.

Today’s inaugural flight of Mexico’s global airline AeroMexico is a powerful commitment to deepen these relationship, brining our two countries ever closer, decreasing travel time and travel cost, elevating passenger comfort and convenience and increasing connectivity.”

That added connectivity comes with an increased number of tourists visiting Belize. In 2017, more than nine thousand tourists from Mexico traveled to Belize. This was an upturn when compared to 2016. It is expected that with AeroMexico’s direct flight, these figures are expected to soar even higher.

“By adding a weekend flight on Saturday and Sunday we are able to bring vacationers from all over the world through Mexico City to Belize. So it enhances our network but at the same time it brings a lot of people down to your country to experience what is a very developing tourism industry. It’s a tremendous opportunity for people to simply their travel patterns. Similarly with our flights to and from Europe, the Belize flight has really good connections in both directions. So you don’t have to spend a day in the United States, you don’t have to come through the United States to come to Belize. We can take you from four countries in Europe, four of the largest countries in Europe, bring you into Mexico City early in the morning at around four, five six o’clock. It connects to this flight at eight thirty. It’s probably the best connection from Europe to Belize there is.”

At the moment, AeroMexico’s rates are competitive and it is the hope of Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia Junior that wealthy Mexicans take advantage of those rates and be a tourist in the Jewel.

It is a market that we have been looking for and investing through our embassy over there and through other agencies in different part of Mexico. I believe that in the very near future we will have great potential. Mexico has very rich people also. It has poor people but it has very rich, rich people over there. We have been seeing this market for a while. It took three years before this flight could materialized but nonetheless between B.T.B. and AeroMexico we will be investing in marketing to make sure that the numbers increase, to make sure that probably we add additional days to the now Saturday and Sunday schedule. So hopefully next year we can add additional flights. It is a working relationship, constant day by day. I always believe that hard work pay and this is no exception.”
