Charges Pending for BAHA Inspector after Fatal RTA near Easy Inn

Arthur Requeña

Well-known Belize City cabbie, Arthur Requeña, will be laid to rest on Friday.  The taxi driver was knocked down and killed on Monday morning while attempting to cross the Philip Goldson Highway near mile two.  He was fatally struck by a vehicle registered to the Belize Agricultural Health Authority, which was driven at the time by Donovan Tzib.  The Senior Quarantine Inspector violently slammed into the fifty-six-year-old in front of the Easy Inn Hotel, tossing Requeña several feet away from where the accident occurred.  This morning, Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino told the media that charges against Tzib are still pending.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

“On November twelfth, sometime around 11:30 a.m., police were called to two miles on the Philip Goldson Highway, this would be where the Easy Inn Hotel is located.  There they saw the body of Mr. Arturo Orlando Requena, fifty-six-years-old.  He was on the side of the road.  From what police have gathered, Mr. Donovan Tzib, a Senior Quarantine Inspector of BAHA, was driving a vehicle assigned to BAHA coming from Ladyville to Belize City and upon reaching Easy Inn, Mr. Arturo was crossing the highway and he struck him.  He was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he died, or was pronounced dead on arrival.”

“Who was at fault sir?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“The investigation is still ongoing, an N.I.P. has been served and we will move from there.”

“So no charges have been brought at this point?”

Insp. Wilfred Ferrufino

“Not at this point.  Mr. Tzib has not been charged so far.”
