What’s Up With Guns and Vehicle Found on Coastal Road?

Joseph Myvett

There was suspicious criminal activity involving a group of heavily armed men along the Coastal Road last weekend. This occurred on the heels of a sting operation by the police the B.D.F. and the coastguard at the start of November on the Coastal Road in which a Toyota Prado loaded with fifteen bails of cocaine was impounded. Although twelve Guatemalan nationals and a Belizean were detained, no one was charged for the drugs.  In the most recent case, when police were called out to the scene on Saturday afternoon, they were also unable to make any arrests.  But they recovered a high-powered assault rifle, as well as several rounds of ammunition.  An SUV was also impounded after its occupants took to the bushes, leaving the vehicle behind. Did the vehicle near where the weapons were found, belong to a former law enforcement officer?  Police would not respond to that question, suffice to say that they are still trying to locate the owner of the sports utility vehicle.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“It was a Ford Explorer and no guns were found in the vehicle.  The guns were found within the vicinity where searches were conducted.  No arrests have yet been made because we are still trying to locate the person who we believe is connected to the vehicle.”

“Okay, is that person a former police officer?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I will not comment on that.”

“Okay, but you are actively seeking the owner of the vehicle’s arrest?”

ACP Joseph Myvett
