Accused Murdered Granted $25K Bail

Accused murderer, thirty-seven-year-old Jorge Vidal, was granted bail today by Supreme Court Justice Colin Williams.  Justice Williams offered bail to the tune of twenty-five thousand dollars.  He was represented by Attorney Oscar Selgado who submitted to the court that Vidal was acquitted of the crime at the Belmopan Supreme Court, but was rearrested in 2015 after the Director of Public Prosecution successfully convinced the Court of Appeal to order a retrial. Selgado also submitted that since the retrial was ordered, a new indictment has not been prepared and the date for the retrial has not been set.  Base on these factors, Selgado told the court that his client’s rights to a free and fair trial within a reasonable time have been breached. Justice Williams favored Selgado’s submission and granted Vidal bail. Vidal is accused of beating Benque Viejo Del Carmen resident, Hortencio Contreras, to death on December thirty-first 2005.
