3 Belizean Minors Repatriated After They Were Found Working in Guatemala

We can report tonight that three Belizean siblings are being transported back to Belize from Guatemala via the western border. The siblings were found to be working in Livingston, Guatemala where Guatemalan authorities acting on an anonymous tip picked up the children.  From what we have been able to ascertain, the three minors were put to work by a woman who claimed she had been given the children. Now, the woman has Belizean nationality, but is originally from Guatemala. When she was questioned, she could not provide any documents to show that she had any legal rights to the siblings. The case was dealt with in Zacapa, which is about three hours from Guatemala City.  The three minors were handed over to the Belizean Embassy in Guatemala and Ambassador Said Guerra was deployed to bring them back to Belize. They will be handed over to the Department of Human Services. Investigations continue as to how they ended up in Guatemala. The children were located last year and placed in custody until their repatriation today through the efforts of the office of the Attorney General in Guatemala.
