Woman Police Constable Charged for Beating Up Female Patron in Sugar City

Joseph Myvett

A woman police constable has been arrested and charged for assaulting another woman inside an establishment in Orange Walk Town last Thursday.  She is WPC Stephanie Patten attached to the San Pedro police formation.  According to Seleny Mai, she was inside the premises along with another woman when she was attacked and beaten up by Patten.  When police responded to the scene of the incident Patten reportedly resisted arrest.  Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Joseph Myvett, says that she was off-duty at the time of the fight.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police responded to an information on November first, sometime around 2:30 a.m. at a nightclub or night establishment in Orange Walk where one Seleny Mai reported to them that whilst she was in the company of one Francisca Bano they had an altercation with another female who we later learned to be police officer, WPC Stephanie Patten.  As a result of the altercation, Ms. Mai and Bano received injuries.  Upon the police arrival and in an attempt to detain the Woman Police Constable who was in civilian clothing and off-duty, she is attached to the San Pedro police station and not to Orange Walk.  An investigation was carried out into the matter and WPC Patten has since been arrested and charged for one count of wounding, one count of damage to property and two counts of harm.”

“Okay, so she faced criminal charges.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes, she has and is also pending disciplinary charges.”

“Did she resist arrest?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes. Yes, she did.”
