Classes resume at Sacred Heart Primary

Students are back in school today at Sacred Heart Primary in Dangriga. They were out of classes for over a week after the public health department shut down the school because its restrooms were no longer functioning and posed a health hazard.  Principal Philippa Hulett was actively trying to get the matter resolved. An engineer visited the school last week for an assessment and on Tuesday evening, she outlined the plan of action to parents. The solution for the restrooms is a temporary one. The school has gotten ten portable toilets for the children to use as the works to get the restrooms up and running have started. The school says it is a huge undertaking where all the toilets will be raised, new pipe lines will be laid and a bigger septic tank with a soak away and leach field will be constructed. The project is to be completed in about a week-and-a-half. Hulett says that Dangriga resident and businessman Basilio Zabaneh has been instrumental in the process and is helping the school to get back to its regular operations, but the school still needs more help. So if you can assist, you are asked to get in touch with Principal Hulett at Sacred Heart. Hulett says parents have also come forward to help with supervision as the temporary plan is in place. The plan to make up for days missed will be finalized and implemented once the restrooms have been restored.
