Stella Maris Inaugurates Its New Music Room

The Stella Maris School in Belize City officially opened its “Leela Vernon” music room. The school has added a music programme to its offerings after it received a number of music equipment including music sheets, saxophone, and trombone.  We stopped in for the ribbon cutting at today’s event.

“Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness in intellectual, social and emotional motor, language and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind to work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them to learn the songs and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills, while allowing them to practice self expression. For children and adults, music helps them to strengthen memory skills. Children in primary school learn to sing together as a group and possibly learn to play an instrument. That is our aim here at Stella Maris School to learn to play a musical instrument. Other children dance to the music of their favourite bands and use music to share feelings. Since there are no negative consequences to the idea of connecting children with music, it is an activity at Stella Maris School that students will surely enjoy.  Today as we inaugurate Stella Maris’ Leela Vernon music programme we embark on tapping into the innate musical skills of our students to stimulate their growth and development.”
