“We built a house at a time, one at a time. It is a regular process and before you know they start to multiply. It is just like the other day we were building house number one. Now we are at three hundred and sixty, a house at a time, a family at a time-day by day.”

For one year and nine months, Egbert Ferguson has been waiting for this day. His family was greatly affected by Hurricane Earl in August 2016. Ever since then, Ferguson has been knocking on doors of several organizations seeking assistance.  Hand in Hand Ministries heard his cries and began making moves to get him a new house.

“I already slept in there already. From Sunday, from the roof was put on I started to sleep here; a better sleep. I can stretch out. I can roll. The chair I was sleeping in, I could not roll because if I roll I would hurt one of them.”

“Ram jammed, now you have…”

Egbert Ferguson

“Don’t say rammed jammed, it sounds bad. Sardine in tin. All I have to say now is that we have to coach the little girl how to take care of it.”

Total funding for the house was provided by Heritage Bank Limited. But besides financial assistance, Heritage Bank deployed some of its employees to help construct the house.

“The staff who could also came out this past weekend to contribute their time and energy and sweat into putting up the house. So we learned how to hammer a nail. We learned how to assemble the wall. We were involved in all aspects.”
