B.N.T.U. Reps Comment on Claver College Issue

Down south in Punta Gorda, the dust has settled with the reinstatement of teachers at Claver College Extension. Classes have resumed, but not after students protested against the decision by two board members, including Chairman Lisel Alamilla to fire nine adjunct teachers. General Secretary Keisha Young explained why the B.N.T.U. has not been vocal on that issue.

“That situation is unique and I believe that is why it seems as if though things are just happening and you are not hearing anything from anyone who could give you answers. There are teachers on that staff who are B.N.T.U. members but because they work at other institutions. So under those institutions there are members of the B.N.T.U.  Actually we did not have a clue that that situation was happening until we went down to PG for our branch meeting there and then our teachers met us and updated us with what was happening there. But because it is a private institution and it seems as if though from what the Minister has explained they are only giving a grant to the school so that makes the situation very tricky to deal with. So B.N.T.U. did not really and truly come out to say anything on the issue but we did meet with the teachers and offer them advice.”
