B.N.T.U. Stands in Solidarity with Stevedores

Preparations are underway for another round of discussions in the days ahead, as the twenty-one day notice given to Port of Belize Limited inches closer towards expiration.  The impasse between discontented waterfront workers and the management of the docking facility persists, despite a number of meetings over the past week in an effort to break a deadlock over hours of work for stevedores.  On Wednesday, the executive of the Christian Workers Union met with P.B.L. representatives and Minister of State Doctor Carla Barnett.  While the meeting ended abruptly, the union is garnering the support of other labour organizations, including the Belize National Teachers Union.  The B.N.T.U. has issued a release backing the stevedores in their fight to conclude this round of collective bargaining negotiations with the Port of Belize.  B.N.T.U. joins the utility workers unions in expressing solidarity with the Christian Workers Union as it has been over six years since the parties have initiated negotiations for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
