Corozal credit union manager reinstated

Story Picture
A week ago he was ousted as general manager of the second largest credit union in the country, but on Tuesday, Vicente Canul will be back behind his desk. That’s right, after protestors staged a demonstration outside the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union in Corozal demanding the G.M. be reinstated, an emergency meeting of the credit union’s board of directors was called on Sunday…and resulted in Canul getting his job back. But that doesn’t necessarily mean his troubles are over. According to officials in the Ministry of Co-operatives, based on the findings of several investigations and the supervisory report completed on the credit union’s finances, they have requested that police file charges of forgery, fraud and conspiracy against Canul. News 5′s attempts to contact Canul or David Mesa, chairman of the board, were unsuccessful, but we have been told by employees that Canul will report to work on Tuesday. Non of the allegations against him involve loss of members’ money, but instead are said to revolve around violations of procedural regulations that govern all Belizean credit unions.
