Will This Pageant Too Be Fraught with Controversy?
Pageants are often times fraught with controversy. Just last year, Zenaida Moya, who was the then national coordinator of the Queen of the Bay pageant, was fired on national television during the coronation of the seventy-second queen. There were two young ladies simultaneously crowned at the tenth of September 2017 ceremony. So today, when we caught up Moya at the pageant launch, she was asked whether the selection, sans a pageant, was transparently done. Here’s how she responded.
Zenaida Moya, National Director, Miss Scuba Belize
“As it regards to any controversy, I will tell you that why I was looked at to be the pageant national director was because they saw that I was somebody who would have ensured that the right thing be done. They looked at it and they felt that you know what, it don’t matter what, there will be fairness and there will be equity and there will be justice in whoever is submitted. This isn’t who you want; this is who qualifies and that is something I believe persons would know that that is what I have always been about; to ensure that there is justice. And I will fight to ensure that the truth and justice comes out; it doesn’t matter what.”
