OSPESCA Reps in Belize for Regional Workshop

The first regional meeting of the fisheries and aquaculture communicators network of OSPECA commenced today in Belize City. OPESCA is a regional body attached to SICA and is in charge of strengthening technical coordination between member countries through the establishment of tools that allow sustainable fishing and aquaculture activities in the region. On Monday delegates from several countries arrived in Belize to participate in a two-day workshop facilitated by OSPECA Regional Director, Reynaldo Rodriguez.

“It is for this reason that we have agreed on the fishing institutions, fishermen and fisherwomen, farmers to understand the common problem that we have in order to improve. One, for example, is the sustainable use of resources like the lobster. As a result, the countries are working together to achieve developments in sustainable fishing of lobsters. This is a workshop that would allow us to take to the public the results from the work that we have been doing do improve the quality of life in each of our countries.”


The workshop continues and concludes on Wednesday.
