MOE to Intervene in Claver College Troubles

Some sixty-five students at Saint Peter Claver College Extension in Punta Gorda are demanding that the nine teachers who were terminated by the school’s board be reinstated. The students staged a peaceful protest earlier in the week and it seems that they will not change their position until the teachers are brought back to the classrooms. It’s a developing situation that the Ministry of Education is keeping a close eye on from afar since the college is a private institution. Today, Chief Education Officer Dr. Carol Babb told News Five that both parties are being given two weeks to come to a compromise or the Ministry will be forced to intervene.

“It’s a private institution and we are giving them sometime to get their act together. By next week or the week after we will intervene and talk to them and try to come to a solution so that the students can get back to school.”

“So the Ministry of Education hasn’t spoken to any of the sides as yet?”

Dr. Carol Babb

“Our C.E.O. has spoken a little bit with the director but I think we need to have a face to face meeting with them and talk with them about how they can improve things there at the school.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Is it a concern that the students aren’t attending classes?”

Dr. Carol Babb

“It is a concern of us that is why we are going to meet with them to ensure that the students can get back into school.”
