“What we have done to better off also is the conservation and preservation of what we have. Because of a small population, Belize has been able to maintain forty percent of its entire territory either in preservation in conservation. We have passed several legislations to make sure that we safeguard what we have that is the catch and release which is the bonefish, tarpon and the permit. Belize is one of two where you can go over there and catch and release and you can get a grand slam. What we have done also is something significant to the world and important to Belize is there was legislation for no offshore drilling in the waters of Belize. That was legislated a few months ago which OCEANA had to say good words about Belize. We are looking forward to ban completely gillnets in Belize which again it is something that tour guides and tourists are asking that we protect this type of activities. Trawling in the waters of Belize; there is no concession to any country that wants to trawl in the waters of Belize, prohibited by legislation. Belize has taken a big step towards conservation and preservation over there.”

The conference comes to an end on Friday.
