Senators Debate Crime Control and Criminal Justice Amendment

Mike Peyrefitte

With the State of Emergency now being suspended, earlier today the Senate debated an amendment to the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act. The amendment is in relation to bail restrictions to gang memberships and other offenses.  The amendment was debated in the House of Representatives last Friday when Lake Independence Area Representative, Cordel Hyde, criticized the government for amending the act almost every single year since 2008. Attorney general and U.D.P. Senator Michael Peyrefitte told the media that if they have to amend the act a thousand times to get it right, they will.

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“The only important thing is to try to get it right. If it takes a thousand amendments, then that is what you do. You do not see a problem with a law and then don’t amend it for the better simply because you amended it a number of times before. If it needs amendment, it needs amendment.”
