Christopher Meighan

This afternoon in San Pedro, Rufino Hernandez, one of two persons suspected of the brutal murder of Caye Caulker resident Christopher Meighan, was arraigned in the magistrate’s court.  He joins Belizean/American Lalman Logan at the Belize Central Prison where he is also on remand after being indicted for the same offence.  Meighan was found butchered inside a room at Central Park Hotel on Friday morning, after checking in the night before in the company of Logan and Hernandez.  Superintendent Reymundo Reyes shares additional details.

“Mr. Rufino Hernandez was transported from Belize City to San Pedro this afternoon where he was arraigned in front of the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court for the crime of murder.  Since the matter is an indictable case, no plea was taken and his case was adjourned for December sixth, 2018.”

“The motive of the murder, we still have not established that as yet.  Even though we have made an arrest in respect to that incident, we are still conducting further investigations to try to establish what actually caused the death of Mr. Meighan.”

“Now I understand that Mr. Lalman Logan was also apprehended at the Philip Goldson International Airport and has been subsequently charged for the crime of murder as well.  Can you share with us some details on that?”

On the Phone: Reymundo Reyes

“Yes sir.  Mr. Logan he was arraigned yesterday for the murder of Mr. Meighan and his plea was not taken since it was an indictable case and the same date for his adjournment as December sixth, 2018.  As a result of an investigation carried out by officers here in San Pedro, video footage and statements have been recorded which give sufficient evidence that we have on hand to proceed with the charges and that is why both persons were arraigned in front of the magistrate here in San Pedro.”
