Former Teachers Request Meeting with Board

The teachers were terminated by the board which is chaired by former minister, Lisel Alamilla; the only other active member is the treasurer, Mark Miller. The mass firing was a unilateral decision made by Alamilla after the teachers refused to sign a contract that would see them paid every two months. The teachers are currently seeking legal advice to determine the validity of their termination.

“At this point we have again requested a meeting with the board—those two people who are actively involved in our board—we have not heard a response. That is still on the table for sure, but we have not gotten a response. We are still open to meet with them and to negotiate with them in order to get this situation resolved peacefully. The next step for us is one, try to get our board active. We have gotten a list from the ministry; we requested a list from the C.E.O. and we have gotten that list as to the members of the board. Now another issue arises when these people were not even aware that they were on the board. So I know that might seem like a black eye to the ministry and we don’t want to seem ungrateful to say that the minister is not providing support to the school because the minister has been providing support to the school and we are appreciative of that. We are just not comfortable with the way that two people on a board are making decisions that affect an entire student body, the community as well as our staff. So we are saying that the way forward is to one, get these members of the board who are on this list, make them aware that they are on the board of the C.C.E. and hopefully they will come in and we can make better decisions instead of having these unilateral decisions made.”
