Elderly Man Claims Unfair Treatment at the Hands of GSU

The following is another story involving claims against the Gang Suppression Unit. Seventy-two-year-old Belize City resident Gladstone Brown and Melda Casimiro Valerio say that their house was raided by members of the GSU without due cause. The elderly man came to our studios in a wheelchair. Accompanied by Valerio, he claims that about eight GSU officers barged into their house on Sanker Street at around midday on Wednesday.  They say there were in search of drugs, guns, and ammunition, none of which were found. Brown and Valerio say that the GSU officers broke down their gate searched their home.

“They actually broke down the gate, straight upstairs with the gun, straight in my face. So when they saw that I cannot move, they started to take it easy. They say they came to search. I asked what they will search for. They said they will search for drugs and gun. I said to go through and search because I do not deal with drugs or gun. I do not have any sort of business going on like that. I am a poor old man, crippled.”

“Did they find anything sir?”

Gladstone Brown

“They found nothing because nothing is there.”

“So they came into my house and they told me to not say anything because they will punch me in my mouth. One of the GSU took away my knife from the table and went into the room and turned over all the clothes; the destruction that they did in the house. So I asked them what the problem was. They told me ammunition and guns. I do not do drugs. I do babysitting. I just want to talk to Mr. Whylie the Commissioner of Police to look into those things. To look into those things when GSU come into your home and take advantage, put gun on my kids and me and video tape me too. “

“I need the Commissioner and the head of the GSU to understand that they came to chance me so if they come back again they will have to shoot me because I will allow them to come into my house.”

Gladstone says that twenty dollars went missing after the GSU officers raided his small house.
