Group of Mexicans Detained by Belize City Police Released

Five Mexican nationals, who were detained on Thursday evening at a boutique, were released on Saturday afternoon. After being held for almost three days, forty-seven-year-old attorney Reymundo Choc, his wife thirty-year-old Norma Gonzalez, forty-seven-year-old Victorino Rivera, thirty-five-year-old Jovita Sagredo and Blanca Sagredo were free to go without any charges. Choc and Rivera were held at Raccoon Street Police Station and the three women were in custody at the Queen Street Police Station. The group was arrested under the suspicion in the ongoing investigation into the recent drug plane landing in Tres Leguas, Blue Creek.  In that bust, two Mexicans and three Belizeans, including superintendent of police, David Chi, have been charged. The group of Mexicans was arrested while they were inside It Store on Queen Street. Their white Chevy two-door pickup truck was also impounded. Police did not address their detention during this afternoon’s police press briefing, but it is believed that other arrests may follow.
