Group of Mexicans Detained by Belize City Police

Five Mexican nationals, two men and four women, were detained by Belize City Police on Thursday evening.  They are forty-seven-year-old attorney Reymundo Choc, his wife thirty-year-old Norma Gonzalez, forty-seven-year-old Victorino Rivera, thirty-five-year-old Jovita Sagredo and Blanca Sagredo.  Choc and Rivera are being held at the Raccoon Street Police Station, while the three women are in custody at Queen Street Police Station.  The men and women were seen on Thursday morning in front of the Magistrate Court during the arraignment of the men who were arrested for the recent drug plane landing in the north.  Following the arraignment, the group parked a white Chevy two-door pickup truck in front of It Store on Queen Street, a few yards away from the Queen Street Police Station. They went inside the boutique where they reportedly went shopping.  But in a matter of minutes, heavily armed police officers and members of the Gang Suppression Unit entered the store and whisked the Mexican nationals away.   The group is detained under suspicion that they might be connected to the Mexican men, who were charged for the illegal drug plane landing in Tres Leguas, Blue Creek.  We are told that Choc was brought to Belize City by a Belizean living in Corozal. Up to news time, the men and women remain in police custody and the vehicle remains impounded. We understand that the Belize Police Department is working along with its Mexican counterparts to properly vet the Mexican nationals to determine if they are connected to any drug cartels in Mexico. From reports received, Choc was hired by the family of one of the accused Mexican nationals so he came to monitor the arraignment.
