18-year-old Charged for Causing the Death of Jeffrey Hernandez
There is an update to the story of a construction worker who was killed by a cement mixer. Eighteen-year-old San Carlos villager, Victor Hernandez has been charged for causing the death of twenty-one-year-old Jeffrey Hernandez. Victor was charged with manslaughter by negligence and was released on a ten-thousand-dollar bail on Friday. On Monday, September third, Jeffrey was at AP Enterprise Cement Block Factory cleaning a cement mixer when the machine was turned on and he ended up between one of the blades and the frame of the heavy-duty mixer for more than two hours before he was freed. Victor reportedly admitted to investigators that he accidentally turned on the machine. The blade sliced Jeffrey’s right abdomen, causing severe injuries. He died minutes after being freed. From the onset, Jeffrey’s family believed that someone turned on the machine. In an interview last week with Jeffrey’s grandfather, Balbino Batun, point fingers at one of the co workers.

“When they go to wash the machine, out the machine and out the current. Plus when they out the current, they took out the belt to make sure that if someone touches something it does not run but the machine was on.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Do you know whether or not your grandson received any training at all in cleaning those machines?”
Balbino Batun
“No. He did not receive any training because his job was not to wash machine. My grandson employed him to work for the blocks.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Do you believe that the machine was accidentally turned on?”
Balbino Batun
“No.”
Hipolito Novelo
“What do you believe sir?”
Balbino Batun
“I say to my mind maybe the ones who were there to see the work and the next one who came to help maybe some of them touch the button accidently. I do not say they did it just to see what will happen. Maybe accidently but none of them want to take responsibly.”
Jeffrey was a well-known football player of Guinea Grass Village and had only one week working at AP Enterprise Cement Block Factory when the unfortunate incident occurred.
