Belmopan Resident Awarded for Being Honest

Belmopan resident Kevin Bautista today was recognized for being an honest individual. Last month, while dining in a restaurant in Belmopan, Bautista found a wallet containing about a thousand dollars along with the owner’s documents. Bautista did some investigation and tracked down the owner, Rodney Neal to return the wallet with all its contents. For that honest deed, the Belize Police Department decided to recognize Bautista with the hopes that it would encourage others to do the same.

“After looking inside the wallet we noticed there were several documents, credit cards social security cards, driver’s license and quite an amount of money as well and it was just in my mind that the money is not of any value. We thought that it might be somebody that just collected their pay but money is something that you can get anytime. The credentials and stuff in there we know that it must have been of value to that particular person.”

“We decided to a award Mr. Bautista in the month of September when we celebrate patriotism to the country and to our fellow man for his honesty in returning the wallet. This is quite a rare occurrence and we hope that more Belizeans would be patriotic to their fellow men as well.”
