Rotaract Club Gives to Port Loyola Preschool!

This week Rotaract Club of Belize City donated over four thousand dollars worth of school supplies to one hundred and thirty preschool students for the new school year. The donation was made to the Presbyterian, Sunshine and Port Loyola Preschools in the City. On Monday, we stopped in for the handing over of the donation at Port Loyola Preschool. News Five’s Andrea Polanco tells us more in the following story:

The Rotaract Club of Belize City gifted new backpacks loaded with school supplies to the students of Port Loyola Preschool. Fifty-five school bags with story books, pencils, crayons, erasers, and other items were handed over on Monday morning at the pre-school.  It’s the third pre-school to receive such a donation from the Rotaract Club this year.

“Today we are handing over school bags with school supplies to all the kids at Port Loyola Pre-School, as well as provided the schools with essential things for this upcoming school year. We believe that this is important because some of the parents don’t really have finance for school supplies and equipment they need for the school year.  Our director she decided that these were the most worthy of receiving this stuff for this upcoming school year.”

Principal of the Port Loyola Preschool Elizabeth Pott says the donation will go a long way to help the children with their school work because many of them can’t afford basic school supplies.

“It is very important because most of the children come from low income families and some of them can’t afford to buy a school bag.”

Duane Moody

“It’s the first day of school, so some of them didn’t have school bags when they came?”

Elizabeth Pott

“Not all of them. Some of them had and some didn’t have. We just work with what we have. We don’t have [additional supplies]. Sometimes we have left-over from last year and then we just improvise.”
