Shakedi Baizar’s Killing is Gang Related

Shakedi Baizar

As we said there were six murders in less than thirty hours in the Old Capital. It began on Friday afternoon when Shakedi Baizar was gunned down in an alley off Johnson Street near the Matron Roberts Polyclinic. That murder is believed to have triggered several other homicides in the city since his siblings are associates of the George Street Gang.  The twenty-three-year-old had just exited from the polyclinic compound when a gunman approached and opened fire. He ran for his life through an alley, but he was pursued and shot several times. Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says they are now looking for two suspects from a rival group.

“What we know so far is that Mr. Baizar, the deceased was in the poly-clinic receiving medical attention and upon exiting he was walking on Magazine Road and then he took that alley that leads into Johnson Street. Whilst he was about halfway he was approached from behind by a male person who fired indiscriminately at him causing the fatal injuries.”

“We know that Mr. Baizar and his brother, particularly his brother, those names have been associated with a city gang; does this murder, as far as police know, gang related?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Yes, we do believe it was gang related.”

“Now, we know that there were four street murders and one near fatal shooting in the city; were the murders and shooting over the weekend as a consequence of this attack on someone related to a powerful city gang?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Yes. There were some of them that were indeed related.”
