NEMO Coordinator Dies after Being Trampled by Racing Horse

A freak accident on Sunday ended in the death of Orange Walk Town resident Evelina Suliema Celiz. The thirty-six-year-old NEMO Coordinator was at a horse race event at San Felipe Village when about five-thirty, a horse trampled her. The narrative is that Celiz was attempting to cross the race track while the race was ongoing when she was killed. She was quickly taken to the Northern Medical Plaza where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident was addressed by ACP Joseph Myvett during today’s police press briefing.

“Yesterday sometime around fifty thirty p.m. police were called to an area in San Felipe Village where a horse race was ongoing where on arrival on Evelina Suliema Celiz, thirty six years was seen with injuries. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Initial investigation revealed that a horse race was in progress when Ms Celiz attempted to cross the track somewhere after the finish line and was ran over by one of the horses that was involved in the race causing her injuries. An investigation is ongoing into this matter.”
