Sunday Afternoon Shooting Leaves Akeem Lopez Hospitalized

Alejandro Cowo

Three persons were injured in separate shootings over the weekend. Twenty-seven-year-old Akeem Lopez is not known to police for any gang or criminal activity, but on Sunday afternoon he was marked for death by a lone gunman.  The motive for the near-fatal attack is still unclear.  Around one-thirty p.m., police were called out to the KHMH where they observed Lopez suffering from multiple injuries to his body.  He had been attacked as he made his way towards Kraal Road.  According to ASP Alejandro Cowo, the assailant let loose a volley of shots in Lopez’s direction.

“On Sunday, September 2nd, 2018, just about 1:20 p.m., police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed Akeem Lopez, twenty-seven-year-old Belizean of Raccoon Street.  He, likewise, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.  He was admitted and is still there in critical condition.  What police have gathered so far is that he was coming from Central American Boulevard towards Kraal Road and whilst traveling approaching an alley on Neal’s Pen Road, a male person just came out from the alley and fired a barrage of shots towards his direction, causing the abovementioned injuries.”

“Is he someone known for any involvement in gang activity who could be targeted for a gang rivalry?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“No, we don’t have anything specific or anything on record that says he belongs to a gang.  We don’t even have that he has even been charged yet for any offense.”
