Woman Charged with 87 Counts of Theft is Freed of the Charges

Marsha Gillett

For four years, a cloud of uncertainty hung above thirty-three-year-old Marsha Gillett as to whether or not she would be spending time behind bars. But tonight, the Belize City resident is breathing many sighs of relief as she was freed of all charges. In 2014, Gillett was slapped with eighty-five counts of theft after being accused of stealing a little over fifteen thousand dollars from the Feinstein Group of Companies where she worked. Today Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford struck out the matter for want of prosecution. The complainants failed to present themselves in court today for trial prompting Gillett’s attorney Alifah Elrington to submit to the court that the case commenced more than four years ago. No evidenced was submitted by the prosecution since the claimants were a no-show. As a result, the senior magistrate struck out all chargers, informing Gillett that she was free to leave. The monies were stolen between April 2012 and December 2013.
