H1N1 Update: M.O.H. C.E.O. Says No New Confirmed Cases

We also asked Doctor Ramon Figueroa for an update on the cases of H-one N-one influenza. As we had reported, there have been five confirmed cases. Several other lab samples have been sent to the Central Medical Laboratory for testing but none have returned positive. However, Doctor Figueroa expects the number of positive cases to increase as the weeks go by.

Dr. Ramon Figueroa, C.E.O., M.O.H.

“I was made to understand there are a couple of suspect cases but I think they came back negative. I can’t give you figures in terms of the numbers of test but as far as I know only five confirmed cases.”

“Sir as an expert, do you believe that the H1N1 has migrated to other districts, Cayo, Toledo but people who have it haven’t gone to the public clinics to get tested?

“That is a possibility. I can’t say yes or no. It is a possibility. I think eventually we will have more cases. It’s the way the virus behaves. It has been coming down from the north. It will pass through Belize. We will have some cases. Base on the information that we have in terms of the different types of the influenza virus. It seems to be the more lethal, the more serious ones has to do with H3 and 2. We’re having H1N1. It does not seem to be a very serious strain at this point in time so we hope that this trend continues. Remember we will be going into the flu season soon so more cases will be popping up.”
