The Best of the Best at Taste of Belize

Over the weekend, the Belize Tourism Board held its signature Taste of Belize competition where twenty master chefs, five junior chefs, four pastry chefs and six bartenders from across Belize battled it out for title rights, as well as other prizes. The event is held every two years to recognize and promote Belizean culinary creativity – where chefs and bartenders prepare their submissions and serve it to a panel of judges who pick the winning dishes. At the end of the competition, Eliza Carr of Hamanasi was named B.T.B.’s Master Chef of the Year; Rojel Ian Lisbey of Guava Limb Café cooked his way to the title of Junior Chef of the Year; Einar Marin, an independent competitor, the Pastry Chef of the Year title and the rounding out the four categories was Emir Sosa of Tony’s Inn and Beach Resort who won the Bartender of the Year. The winners of the various categories will represent Belize in next year’s Taste of the Caribbean, the region’s premier culinary competition, food and beverage educational exchange and Caribbean cultural showcase. The event was held at the Ramada Belize City Princess on Saturday.
