Fire Officials Are Yet to Determine Cause of Recent Fire in San Pedro

Today, fire officials say they are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire that wiped out the house of Leo Martinez in San Pedro. On Monday, Martinez told us that he suspected that someone set his house on fire on Sunday night just after eight thirty in the San Pedrito area. The investigators say that the structure didn’t have a power source and neither was there anything cooking where the fire originated.

Orin Smith, Station Officer, National Fire Service

Orin Smith

“The San Pedro Branch of the National Fire Service received and responded to reports from a police of a structural fire on Manta Ray Street in San Pedrito area in San Pedro. On arrival on scene, a twelve-by-eight plywood structure elevated three feet above ground was on fire. A second plywood structure that situated three feet from the burning structure, the west face was also on fire. Following a brief size up, the fire service went into operation extinguishing the fire. As a result of the fire, the twelve-by-eight structure was destroyed and the west face of the adjacent structure was damaged by fire. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire originated in the center of the building and the cause is still under investigation.”
