DCP Says Israelis’ Training is Useful
Deputy Commissioner Chester Williams, an advocate of strong community relations, credits the Israelis for their success in that area of outreach, despite what has been said by detractors of the initiative.
Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations)
“As much as there may be critics out there, the Israelis are one of the best worldwide where community policing is concerned and for them to have been here to teach our officers how to improve ourselves in community policing, I think is a very good thing for us in the police department and as a country.”
Isani Cayetano
“Now I know the decision that was made to host the Israeli instructors was one that was perhaps made at the level of the political directorate. Nonetheless, in terms of what they have been able to impart with the participants, what can the public look forward to in the days ahead with these individuals implementing what they’ve learned?”
Chester Williams
“Well the public can look forward to more positivity coming out of the police department. They can look ahead to see police officers become more interactive with them. They can look ahead to police consulting with them more frequently and most importantly, they can look ahead to more professional policing. We want to ensure that the professionalism of our police department improves and this course is one way of ensuring that officers become more professional in how they interact with the public.”
