DK Supermarket Rum Thief Gets Lucky

Robert Flores

Accused rum thief Robert Flores is lucky to have escaped criminal charges after being caught red-handed stealing a bottle of Hennessey from DK Supermarket on Tuesday afternoon.  Footage of the manhunt, as well as Flores’ subsequent capture by employees and the police, aired exclusively on News Five, has gone viral.  But he will not be arraigned for the theft of the top-shelf liquor because the proprietor of the store does not wish to proceed with any charges.  According to employees of DK Supermarket, Flores entered the premises on the Philip Goldson Highway sometime around two-thirty p.m. and made his way to the liquor section where he attempted to smuggle the alcohol.  When the proprietor went to check on him a brief scuffle ensued during which Flores allegedly produced what appeared to be an edged instrument.  He then fled the scene of the robbery leaving behind his bicycle.  A foot chase and vehicular pursuit led a group of workers and customers into the area of Bella Vista where Belama police were eventually able to catch up with Flores, who was submerged in shallow water beneath a seawall in that neighborhood.  A search of our archives indicates that Flores was also shot by police back in August 2015 when he was caught damaging electrical wires and pipelines at the A and R compound in Belize City.
