Are Robbers Abandoning Downtown and Targeting the North Side?

Are robbers abandoning downtown and targeting the north side? From all indications it appears so. After police implemented the “safe zone” on the Alberts following a string of daring armed robberies, the robberies slowed down but at the same time robberies were being committed on the north side of the City. Creole Wagans, Moon Grocery and the Balloon Bar were all robbed in the past few days, and there was an attempted robbery of a Chinese grocer, as well. Police were asked to comment on the increasing number of robberies.

“Would you say that there is what you all call displacement of crime where police have a very strong presence on the Albert street area now, and so perhaps the criminals are moving to the north side where there is not such a strong presence of police?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Eastern Division

“Well, as Mr. Williams, the Deputy ComPol, made mention in a conversation that I had with him, he indicated that it is a game of chess and it is about moving the right pieces. I do know that this morning there was a meeting held with OCs of Region One and Region Two and they are putting operational orders into place that will alleviate and  complement the patrols in the region two area of the city.”

“Do you think that perhaps you are looking at serial offenders who specialize in a certain area of the city?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Well, like I said, we have persons of interest. We have persons in custody and we are looking at the different footages in the area and we will see if the suspects we have in custody and those of interest for us are the same.”
