Homeless Man Needs two hundred dollars to Pay Theft Fine

Denroy Ingram

A homeless man caught stealing inside a clothing store on Albert Street avoided jail today. But forty-four-year-old Denroy Ingram is not out of danger yet as he must find two hundred dollars to pay the Magistrate’s Court by the end of August. On Monday, owner of Juanita’s Outlet, Joseph Hoy, was alerted by his wife Rashida of a man fitting Ingram’s description who had just grabbed a bundle of clothes for sale valued at just under twenty-three dollars. The man, later identified as Ingram, fled the store heading south on Albert Street with two police officers giving chase. They later apprehended him and he was charged with theft. Ingram was in jail more than a decade ago for a previous theft and burglary conviction, but Magistrate Khadeen Palmer elected only to fine him after accepting his guilty plea.   But will Ingram, who presumably has no income, be able to pay his fine? If not, he will be jailed for two months.

Send him to prision he will get free food and shelter there, rather than be back on the street to steal again.
