Di Creole Wagans Latest Target of Thieves

There has been a surge in dangerous daylight robberies of various stores in the downtown area of the City. In the past two weeks, Hofius, Nacho World, and M and L Collections were hit by armed thieves who remain on the loose. Police have put more on boots on the ground in the downtown area so the thieves, are now fanning out to establishments elsewhere in the city.  This afternoon before four o’clock, the popular Creole Wagons on E Street, was hit by four men. The store owner Jesucita Reyes was alone when the armed robbery took place.  Reyes was held at gunpoint and was relieved of her personal jewelry along with the day’s sales which did not add up to much, but left her shaken-up. Police may be able to crack this case since surveillance camera caught the four brazen thieves as they walked into the yard and pulled up their shirts to hide their face.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

This afternoon between two and two-thirty p.m., a group of four men walked into Di Creole Wagon’s in the King’s Park area and held up the proprietor at gunpoint.  The woman was alone inside the clothing and housewares store when the assailants intruded on her.  The gang of thieves reportedly attempted to conceal their identities by placing t-shirts over their faces, but not before passing the surveillance cameras that are installed near the entrance to the property.  News Five was later informed that one of the men placed a firearm at the woman’s head, while his accomplices proceeded to relieve her of jewelry and other personal items.  Taken from the cash register was a paltry sum of approximately fifty dollars.  We are also told that the pistol-wielding robber was instructed on several occasions to shoot and kill her.  Fortunately, her life was spared.  Of interest is the fact that there has been a spate of armed robberies in Belize City, with thieves preying on business owners in the downtown area before shifting their attention elsewhere.

On Friday, Moon Grocery Store here on Coney Drive was also targeted. Just before four o’clock as persons were heading home, a trio of robbers entered the store. One of the three men was armed; he demanded that the store owner, Guo Jin Li, hand over cash. Fearful, the fifty-year-old businessman so did, handing over seven hundred dollars. But before they fled, the trio proceeded to rob two customers in the store.
