Mayor Tops Councilor to Join P.U.P. Ticket in Orange Walk East

Tonight we have news from both major political. The race to represent Orange Walk East in 2020 was a hotly contested campaign between P.U.P. Mayor Kevin Bernard and Councilor Josue Carballo.  For weeks, the town hall colleagues had been working tirelessly, canvassing the constituency.  Their presence on the ground, as well as in the social media realm ramped up in the last leg of Sunday‘s convention with Mayor Bernard defeating Carballo in his first bid at national elections.  Following the convention, Chairman Henry Charles Usher announced the winner, before swearing in Bernard as the party’s standard bearer ahead of the next general elections.

“We had two excellent candidates and we need to give both candidates a big round of applause.  This was a passionate convention, a well-organized convention and from the time the polls opened to the time the polls closed we had our voters coming out in huge numbers.  So congratulations to all of you as well.  Officially, we received one thousand, seven hundred and seventy-eight vote.  Sixteen were spoilt, making the total seventeen, ninety-four.  Receiving eight hundred and twenty-seven votes was Mr. Josue Carballo.  Receiving nine hundred and thirty-five votes is Mayor Kevin Bernard.  So the new P.U.P. standard bearer for Orange Walk East is Mayor Kevin Bernard. We will now do the oath of office for our new standard bearer.”
