He was returning home on bicycle after purchasing food near the intersection of Dolphin and Armadillo streets. Upon passing Queen’s Square Primary School, Fitzgibbon noticed someone standing in the schoolyard. The unidentified individual took aim at him and fired several shots in his direction, injuring him in the left leg. Police shared additional details on the incident earlier today.
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City
“On Sunday, about 9:57 a.m., police visited the K.H.M.H. trauma room and they discovered Nimrod Fitzgibbon, a twenty-seven-year-old resident of Supaul Street. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the left leg. Mr. Fitzgibbon indicated that he had just purchased food at the corner of Armadillo Street and Dolphin Street and was making his way on bicycle on Fairweather Street when he observed an individual in the Queen’s Square Primary School. He then heard shots and realized that he was injured. Police have not detained anyone so far and the matter is under investigation.”
“Is this, we know that there are ongoing rivalries in that area., is this a product of any gang rivalry in that area?”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
“We are looking into the matter and of course we are trying to determine that or determine the motive. But there is no indication that there is anything gang-related at this point.”
