Shoman Stays Out of Referendum Campaign

Assad Shoman

According to Shoman, he hopes his book will be widely disseminated through traditional and modern means. But as to his personal involvement in the public education campaign, which had been publicly bruited by Prime Minister Dean Barrow in 2014, Shoman says he will be staying on the sidelines for now.

Assad Shoman, Author

“It’s something that I think, number one, the media will have to do; the educators will have to do, all leaders of different things – of NGO’s, of institutions, of villagers, of political parties – it’s their duty to get to everybody and explain. As you say it will be difficult – in fact, young people mostly nowadays noh read book; Yasser [Musa] tells me you have to go on apps and ‘whaps’ and all kinds of thing – [laughter]. Not books. So all of that has to be done by others; I don’t have the skill to do that.”

“I don’t know if you have been asked, but can we expect you to be more involved in the campaign itself and the referendum unit?”

Assad Shoman

“No. I don’t think you can expect that. I live in Cuba. I’m willing to do anything that can help but I’ve got a life to live.”

“I would imagine that the foreign minister, Mr. Elrington has reached out to you; has asked, requested your assistance?”

Assad Shoman

“Let’s not get into the realm of imagination. (Laughter)”
