Pedestrian Struck Fatally in Cattle Landing, Toledo

Wilfredo Ferrufino

A pedestrian lost his life while walking along the highway near Cattle Landing Village in Toledo District.  The fatal road traffic accident happened on Wednesday night as fifty-six-year-old Hector Ramclam was making his way on foot along the stretch of road.  He was struck by a motorcycle driven at the time by twenty-nine-year-old Daniel Mejia and died sometime later at the Punta Gorda Hospital.  While Mejia has been served with a notice of intended prosecution, an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

“On Wednesday, sometime around 8:50 p.m., Punta Gorda police responded to a mile and a quarter on the San Antonio Road.  This would be in Cattle Landing Village.  Upon arrival they discovered two male persons, one standing with injuries and the other lying on the ground.  The one on the ground was identified to be Hector Ramclam, a fifty-six-year-old resident of Cattle Landing Village.  The other male person was identified to be Daniel Mejia, a twenty-nine-year-old resident.  From the investigation it has revealed that Mr. Mejia was riding or driving his motorcycle from Punta Gorda, in the direction of Cattle Landing when he hit Mr. Ramclam.  Mr. Ramclam, unfortunately, died at the hospital.  The matter is being investigated and an NIP has been issued and police are looking into that case.”

“Has it been determined whether the deceased was walking along the road or was riding a bicycle?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Yes, I was made to understand that yes, he was walking on the road and he was hit and dragged by the motorcycle.”
